LIVING AND STUDY EXPENSES IN GERMANY
Since Jan.2005 the German “Verfassungsgericht” abolished the injunctive that the first degree courses and following master degree courses are free from tuition. More and more federal states charge for tuition. The tuition standards of most states are in the range of Euro 500 for each seminar, which means half a year, however, Hessen state plans to charge up to Euro 1500 for each semester for students of non-European communities who are pursuing the doctor and master degree.
Most federal sates require students to finish their programs in the limited period. If over this time limit or this is the program of second degree, you will be charged for the tuition about Euro 500 – 1500 per seminar. In addition, many universities will charge application fee of Euro 50 to foreign students. And some universities will charge for management fee of Euro 50. Beside this, students will need to pay for Euro 25 for registration fee and Euro 50 for social welfare. The living expense per month for Germany college student will be about Euro 500-700.
Working permission
The students officially registered in universities are allowed to work part-time during winter and summer vacation to supplement their living expenses. According to the relevant regulation, the time of a student work very year could not be no more than three months (90 days) or 180 half days.
Now in many cities you might not find jobs due to the economic situation, so you can not count on part-time jobs to earn an essential part of your living.
